Actor, film director, producer and rap legend Ice Cube will star in a new film about the scandal-ridden 1990s Los Angeles Police Department, which is scheduled to shoot in Los Angeles in late August.
'Rampart' is based on a screenplay by revered Los Angeles crime novelist James Ellroy, and is set in the mid-90's, when the LAPD was rumored to have had ties to the murders of Biggie and Tupac.
Cube will be playing an LAPD officer involved with the city's anti-gang program, Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH), who were accused of committing shootings, beatings, armed robbery, drug peddling, evidence planting and perjury. The film will also star Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster, and will be helmed by Oren Moverman, director of the Academy Award-nominated war film 'The Messenger.'
Ice Cube also plans to continue his Friday franchise with its fourth installment. However, one notable figure of the series needs to be on board before it continues. “I don’t want to do it without Chris Tucker. That’s what people want. I really want to give people what they want, especially doing it for a fourth time. We can’t just go through a movie without giving the people exactly what they want.”
Brainstorming on how the next movie could start off, Cube added, “I see Smokey working at a rehab center. [Laughs] Craig and Day-Day are probably selling weed by now, get busted, have to go rehab with Smokey, try to convince Smokey to smoke a joint. [Laughs] That’d be pretty cool.”
